About 2500 Assyrians of the former Soviet Union took part in the Second World War during 1941-45, and half of them did not return home. Many of these men received different types of medals and two of them received medial “Hero of Soviet Union” the most respected medial made of Gold.
The student of the Assyrian language school of Krasnodar in Russia, Alexey Abramov, is performing the famous poem “Ya nishra d’tkhoma” by the Assyrian legend Fraydon Atouraya. It is worth to mention that Alexey’s father is Assyrian and his mother is Russian.
Rabi Odisho has been teaching Assyrian language, as mother tongue, in the Swedish official schools in the town of Jönköping since 1998 until he retired few years ago. Rabi Ashor is sharing his experiences with us in this interview. His son, the talented young man, Ninos Odicho, is studying at the university, and he will obtain his bachelor’s degree this summer. Ninos does read and write Assyrian, and he can speak it in a very good level.
